Date-Nut Scones

Serve with lemon or citrus curd.
2¼ cups flour
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
10 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup milk
1 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon grated lemon peel
8 ounces chopped pitted dates
½ cup chopped walnuts
Preheat oven to 375°.
In a food processor bowl, stir together the flour, brown sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut butter into ½” cubes. Pulse together with flour in processor until it resembles coarse crumbs. In a small bowl, stir together the milk, egg vanilla, and lemon peel. Add the milk mixture to the flour mixture and stir to combine. With lightly floured hands, knead in the dates and nuts until evenly distributed.
Pat into 9″ circle and cut into 3″ circles. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until done.
